On June 2025, Archbishop Damianos of Sinai, Primate of the Autonomous Church of Mount Sinai, sent a formal letter to Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, President of the Hellenic Parliament, addressing the pressing matter concerning the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai.
In his letter, Archbishop Damianos emphasizes the exceptional importance of the points raised in the Parliament President’s letter to his Egyptian counterpart. He describes these points as “crucial” and capable of securing a favorable outcome for the Greek side.
Expressing his satisfaction with the shared conviction that “no judicial decision can erase the justice and history of 15 centuries, the truth and culture,” the Archbishop recalls that even barbaric conquerors had respected this reality.
He also conveys his trust in Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis for their handling of the delicate negotiation process.
Furthermore, Archbishop Damianos calls for the convening of the Standing Committees on Cultural Affairs, National Defense, Foreign Affairs, and the Special Committee on Hellenism of the Diaspora to thoroughly inform the Greek Parliament on this highly significant issue.
Attached to the letter is a concise historical account detailing “the entire truth regarding the attempted dissolution of the Holy Monastery of Sinai.”
