The Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Khaled Mubarak, held a meeting with Archbishop Damianos of Sinai at his residence in Athens, with the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Greece, Omar Amer.
The meeting took place within the framework of ongoing communication and coordination, fostering constructive cooperation and strengthening the longstanding historical ties between the South Sinai Administration and St. Catherine’s Monastery.
The Governor of South Sinai expressed his commitment to ongoing cooperation with the monastery, recognizing it as a significant religious and historical symbol. He highlighted the dedicated efforts to preserve and protect its rich religious and cultural heritage.
These efforts are part of a broader initiative to fully develop the area surrounding St. Catherine’s Monastery, with the goal of showcasing this sacred site in its fullest splendor. The project aims to highlight its spiritual significance as a place of “Great Revelation” while transforming it into a unique global tourist destination that reflects its exceptional historical and cultural value.
Archbishop Damianos expressed heartfelt gratitude to the governor for the state’s commitment to developing the city of St. Catherine, supported by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. He voiced his hope for ongoing cooperation to further enhance the monastery as both a religious and tourist destination, ensuring it continues to serve visitors from all corners of the world.
He also pledged to visit the governor upon his return from Greece, affirming his intention to accept the governor’s kind invitation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides exchanged commemorative gifts. The governor presented a miniature of the Monastery of St. Catherine as a token of appreciation and a commitment to ongoing cooperation, aimed at serving the public interest and reinforcing the deep historical and cultural ties between them.
