Turkey walks a tightrope and might fall off it, Archbishop Chrysostomos said regarding the Turkish provocations in the EEZ of Cyprus.
Asked to comment on the latest developments, following a meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Nicos Anastasiades, Archbishop Chrysostomos said he was not afraid of the presence of Turkish drilling rigs in the EEZ. “They ramble, they can neither find something, nor are able to manage it. Let them fool themselves,” he said.
He added that if the Republic of Cyprus focuses at the economy and the National Guard, there is nothing to fear. “We have allies, of course we do not want them to fight for us but Turkey has taken the wrong path for the first time,” he said, noting that the course taken by Tayyip Erdogan is wrong, as no one wants Turkey, neither Europe nor America, neither Russia, nor the great powers. “It walks a tightrope (Turkey), and might fall of it,” he said.
Asked if the game of psychological warfare has affected the Cypriot leadership and the people of Cyprus, the Archbishop said they shouldn’t have been affected. “We must not lose our nerve, we must take care of our economy and the National Guard, so that Turkey can know in advance that any move they make will be at its expense; they will win five but lose ten. So, they won’t dare to do anything,” he concluded.
