Following the Holy Synod’s decision to remove Tychikos from the Metropolitan Throne of Paphos, Archbishop Georgios told RIK that the subsequent reactions came from neighboring Metropolises and other parts of Cyprus and were driven by ulterior motives.
While awaiting Bishop Tychikos’s decision to submit a confession of faith, the Primate of the Church of Cyprus said that there had been no developments since his meeting with the former Metropolitan last Friday.
If there is no change, the issue will be definitively closed on June 23, the date of the regular session of the Holy Synod.
The next session will address the statements and positions of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou.
Regarding the case of the Monastery of Saint Avvakoum and the defrocked monks’ allegations against Metropolitan Isaias of Tamasos and Orinis, the Archbishop said that no complaint has been submitted.
He again urged anyone with evidence about anyone, even himself, to come forward.
