The Municipality of Kaimakli in Nicosia celebrated the great martyr Barbara, in her homonymous church, where Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus attended, presided over the Great Vespers, celebrated the Artoklasia service and preached the Divine message.
The Archbishop of Cyprus, in his sermon, emphasized the extent of the virtue of the great martyr, stressing that “the Saint became a daughter of the Heavens because she lived with devotion and modesty in her life. She was subjected to martyrdom and imprisonment, but she did not lose her courage because the Lord strengthened her. She was not seduced by her beauty because she loved Christ and remained faithful to His teaching until jer death. The saint is a jewel of the Holy Martyrs of our Church. She died after being beheaded by her own father, and she urged everyone not to take about any risks in the face of Christ’s glory. And for opening her heart to God, she was filled with His love, which strengthened her in the face of martyrdom. The greatest honour we can offer her is to imitate her life.”
