The Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus announced the way in which the Church will operate during the services of Holy Week and the Resurrection, after the measures announced by the Cypriot government to deal with the pandemic as reported by omegalive.com.cy.
Having expressed his opposition to the government decree that allows the attendance of only 50 faithful with the presentation of a vaccination certificate, Archbishop Chrysostomos called on the faithful to attend the services in the churches by keeping their distance and wearing their masks.
“That is why I said clearly without a mask no one would be allowed to enter the church and they would keep their distance. And I said to the minister a while ago, ‘I can’t understand why to allow only 50 people. If the church is bigger, why only 50? Why does it bother you if 100 people attend by keeping distances? He does not answer me,” the Archbishop said in the morning.
“I do not care if the police come here. I want to be strict. I am not the one who increases the cases, I rather prevent. If they can’t understand it, they should leave me alone. They aren’t little kids so that I should teach them a lesson. I am clear,” said the Archbishop.
“I do not agree with what they did in Greece, Christ went down to Hades for three days, not for two days. They tried to tell me to be more careful but I told them it is our business,” said the Archbishop.
