The unwavering love and devotion of the Church of Crete and the Cretan people toward the Ecumenical Patriarch were powerfully reaffirmed by Archbishop of Crete Eugenios, speaking from the pulpit of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Minas, shortly after the return of the Synodal Delegation from the Phanar.
As reported by local media, Archbishop Evgenios emphasized in his address that “our Father and Patriarch listened to our pain, heard our concerns, and stood by us with genuine pastoral care,” in order, as he noted, “to dispel the clouds that had formed in our relations with the Mother Church.”
The Archbishop attributed these “clouds” to interventions by third parties who sought to disrupt this bond, while making clear that such efforts cannot alter the Church of Crete’s stance. “We love the Mother Church,” he stressed, “and we cannot feel ourselves separated from her even for a single second.”
He further underlined that during the meeting at the Phanar, the Synodal Delegation conveyed to the Ecumenical Patriarch the deep-rooted loyalty and steadfast devotion of both the Church of Crete and the people of Crete.
