On the morning of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno visited the Skinakas Observatory, located above Anogeia, to joyfully attend the official naming ceremony of the new “200+” telescope.
This state-of-the-art rotating telescope is the most advanced of its kind in Europe and was generously donated by the “Greece 2021” Committee, chaired by Ms. Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki. Ms. Angelopoulos-Daskalakis, present at the event, expressed her heartfelt joy for this remarkable project, highlighting how it elevates the status of her beloved homeland, Crete, and serves as a unique tool throughout Greece for observing the night sky.
The ceremony was also honored by the presence of Archbishop Eugenios of Crete and other distinguished guests.
