Archbishop Makarios of Australia will be conferred the title of Honorary Doctor by both the Department of Theology and the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion at the School of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
The honorary award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the university’s Great Hall (main building, 30 Panepistimiou Street, Athens). The event will be held in the distinguished presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who will attend the ceremony as a guest of honor.
As part of the proceedings, Archbishop Makarios will deliver a keynote address titled:
“Vox populi on the Internet: The Modern Threat to Ecclesiastical and Democratic Ethos.”
The recognition highlights Archbishop Makarios’ scholarly contributions, leadership within the Church, and engagement with contemporary issues at the intersection of theology, society, and digital communication.
