Archbishop Makarios of Australia met on Friday, 16 May, with Dr Patricia Koromvokis, Lecturer in Global Cultures and Languages in the School of International Studies at Macquarie University.
Dr Koromvokis congratulated His Eminence on his recent appointment as Honorary Doctor of the Department of Theology and the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies of the School of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
Then she presented him with a copy of the collective volume First and Second Foreign Language: Theoretical Approaches and Educational Applications, edited by I. Galantomos, Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Thessaly, and Professor E. Griva, Vice rector for International Affairs and Student Affairs and Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Western Macedonia Greece.
The volume focuses on the analysis, learning, and teaching of first and second/foreign languages. Academic contributors from Greece, Cyprus, Australia, and Canada present research findings that explore the complexities of language learning, grammatical description, and the practical applications of language knowledge, whether as a first or a second/foreign language. Dr Koromvokis contributed a chapter to the volume titled: “The Role of Metalanguage in the Teaching, Learning and Assessment of Greek as an L2/FL in Australia in the Era of ChatGPT.”
