On Friday, September 12, a clergy meeting was held at the Archiepiscopal Church of the Holy Wisdom in Adelaide, presided over by Archbishop Makarios of Australia, with the participation of Bishop Silouan of Adelaide, Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, and the clergy of the city.
In his address, Archbishop Makarios reflected on the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council (325 AD). He highlighted the challenges of that era which made the convocation of the Council necessary, underscoring its crucial role in safeguarding the unity and peace of the Church, as well as in formulating the dogmatic expression of the truth of the faith. Referring also to the upcoming Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, he emphasized the significance of the Cross in the life of the faithful, particularly in the ministry of the clergy.
Following the Archbishop’s remarks, Bishops Silouan and Iakovos also addressed the assembly, after which the priests expressed their gratitude to their shepherd for his presence in Adelaide and for organizing the forthcoming Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis.
The meeting concluded with a discussion of administrative and pastoral matters.
