A new documentary titled “Council of Nicaea” has been released to commemorate the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council, held in Nicaea of Bithynia in 325 AD. Directed and produced by Melike Çapan, the documentary was filmed in Istanbul and sheds light on one of the most significant moments in Church history.
The production features reflections and commentary from leading figures of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, including Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, and the Grand Archdeacon Alexander, along with representatives of Christian minorities in Istanbul, scholars, and academics.
Contributing to the project was also Archon Grand Chartophylax of the Ecumenical Throne, Mr. Lakis Vigas, who introduced the film during a special screening at the Patriarchal School of Marasli. The event was held in the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne, Christian minority representatives, and other distinguished guests.
Both Archbishop Makarios of Australia and producer Melike Çapan offered remarks on the significance of the film and its message during the screening, emphasizing the enduring importance of the Council of Nicaea and its impact on Christian unity and doctrine.
