On Thursday, September 18, Archbishop Makarios of Australia warmly welcomed a delegation of members from the Board of Directors of the Greek Australian Society at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese in Sydney.
The Greek Australian Society is an organization whose mission is to strengthen the bonds within the Greek-Australian community. Also present was the leadership of the Pharos Alliance of New South Wales, a Society initiative with the vision of reviving the Modern Greek language in the state.
The delegation was headed by the president of the Greek Australian Society, Mr. George Bliokas. The delegation included the vice president, Vasilios Maloukis; board member Mersina Hrisfteff; co-founder of the Pharos Alliance NSW, George Psychogios; coordinator Konstantia Zagrimani; and project manager Justin Panos.
The meeting was held in a warm and constructive atmosphere and focused on issues related to teaching the Greek language. The meeting also explored opportunities for further collaboration in this field.
Additionally, Archbishop Makarios accepted the Greek Australian Society’s leadership’s invitation to preside over its 2026 New Year’s event and the traditional Vasilopita cutting ceremony.
