Archbishop Makarios of Australia presented the Order of Philochrists Medal, the highest honorary award of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, to Melbourne expatriate businessman and benefactor, Andreas Andrianopoulos.
Mr. Andrianopoulos has been involved for many years in diverse social activities within the Greek expatriate community and the broader Australian society and has become a steadfast supporter of the work of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
His decoration by the Archbishop of Australia took place on Monday, June 10th at the end of the Archdiocesan Vespers at the Holy Monastery of Panagia “Axion Esti” in Northcote, Victoria.
Archbishop Makarios spoke warmly of the personality and contributions of Mr. Andrianopoulos, whom he described as a “role model to be emulated”. “For many years he has given himself to the Church and his fellow man without ever asking for anything in return,” he pointed out. “With great humility, prudence, faith, and hope in God,” he added, “he helps whenever and however he can, sometimes even beyond his means. For that, we owe you a big “thank you!”
