Archbishop of Australia: Greek is a sacred language

On Friday, November 27, Archbishop Makarios of Australia met the Rescue Committee of the Modern Greek Studies Program at LaTrobe University in Melbourne.

The Archbishop was already informed of the Committee’s activities. He gave them his blessing to continue their work and asked them whether there were other ways to support both the Committee’s work and the Modern Greek Studies program, while pledging to do his utmost to support the higher education in the Greek language in Melbourne.

He also stressed that Greek was a sacred language and that all bodies in the community should coordinate their efforts so that they could struggle together. “We all have something to offer and no one should miss this fight,” he added.

The members of the Committee expressed their gratitude for the Archbishop’s interest and assistance he has already provided.
