On Saturday, December 14, Archbishop Makarios of Australia, during his pastoral visit to Melbourne, specifically to the Holy Diocese of Chora, visited the elderly expatriates at St. Basil’s Elderly Care Unit in the suburb of Fawkner.
The Archbishop participated for the first time in a Christmas event at the Unit, where he had the opportunity to interact with the residents and staff, extending his heartfelt wishes for the upcoming holy days of the Twelve Days.
During the visit, Archbishop Makarios was accompanied by Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who is also the President of the Board of Directors of St. Basil’s, Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, and Archimandrites Vasileios Papadakis, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of St. Anastasia the Roman of Rethymno, and Theologos Papalevyzakis from the Monastery of Arkadi.
Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand, Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne and Ioannis Chrysoulakis, former Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, were also present.
During the event, which featured a festive meal, music, and dancing, Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno delivered heartfelt greetings to the elderly residents of St. Basil’s. Metropolitan Prodromos specifically commended the excellent work being carried out at the Unit, congratulated its management and staff, and presented Bishop Evmenios of Chora with a commemorative plaque depicting the Holy Four New Martyrs of Rethymno: Manuel, Angelis, Georgios, and Nikolaos.
