On Monday, October 6, Archbishop Makarios of Australia accompanied Greece’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Lina Mendoni, during her courtesy visit to the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.
Minister Mendoni, who was visiting Australia to attend the anniversary event marking the first year of operation of the “living” museum Our People, Their Stories (www.opts.org.au
), a project of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, was warmly welcomed by Consul General Mr. Georgios Scemperis and the Consulate staff.
During the meeting, Mr. Scemperis briefed the Minister on the Consulate’s operations and its ongoing initiatives aimed at preserving and strengthening the bonds between the Greek diaspora and the homeland.
The meeting was also attended by His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Canberra, Greek Ambassador to Australia Mr. Stavros Venizelos, and journalist and special advisor to the Minister, Ms. Anna Panagiotarea.
At the conclusion of the visit, Minister Mendoni and Consul General Scemperis exchanged commemorative gifts, expressing mutual appreciation and goodwill.
