Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece contacted Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine by phone today, Friday, March 11, 2022, and expressed to him, once again, the full support of the Church of Greece for the Orthodox people of Ukraine.
The Archbishop of Athens pointed out that the support of the Church of Ukraine is of great importance to the Church of Greece, which is why an Encyclical Synodal Note has already been sent to the Holy Archdiocese and its Holy Metropolises, requesting information on their ability to accommodate refugees from Ukraine, especially children, and unaccompanied minors.
Concluding their communication, Metropolitan Ieronymos assured Metropolitan Epifaniy that the Holy Clergy and the pious people of the Church of Greece pray continuously during this blessed period of the Holy and Great Lent so that peace may prevail immediately and the Orthodox peoples of Ukraine and Russia, and the whole world to celebrate Easter.
Metropolitan Epifaniy: We are grateful to you
The Church of Ukraine also issued an announcement after the conversation he had by telephone with Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.
As noted, Metropolitan Epifaniy spoke with the Archbishop of Athens about the current developments, especially the barbaric bombing of Russian troops in Mariupol, Kharkiv, and other cities of Ukraine.
“Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens condemned Russian aggression and expressed the sympathy and support of the Church of Greece to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
He noted that prayers for peace in Ukraine are heard daily in the churches, while the Church and the State provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees while gathering humanitarian aid for the needs of our country.”
Metropolitan Epifaniy, for his part, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Church of Greece, the government, and the people for their support in Ukraine, for the prayers and the help they provide during the terrible ordeal of the war that Russia started against the country.
He announced that he had telephone conversations with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, with Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, and with many hierarchs of Orthodox Churches abroad.
