“Drugs have been a false refuge for many people during the pandemic and, of course, no normalcy can come back and exist as long as the shadow of addiction hangs over the lives of so many of our fellow human beings,” said Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece in his message for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
He also extolled those who made their effort and overcame this by choosing life, creation, love and hope, thus reminding all of us that human nature hides admirable greatness.

On today’s International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Greece and the entire planet make a huge attempt to return to normalcy.
Drugs have been a false refuge for many people during the pandemic and, of course, no normalcy can come back and exist as long as the shadow of addiction hangs over the lives of so many of our fellow human beings.
Despite the adversity, some overcame this shadow and chose life, creation, love and hope. They did not accept fear and death as the winner of their daily lives and reminded all of us that human nature hides admirable greatness.
We honor this struggle and this effort this year and every year, that is, to give hope to those who dared to say no and to inspire those who will soon dare with the help of God to walk the path of freedom and rehabilitation.
