With reverence and deep spiritual devotion, the Service of the Lamentations is being held this evening, Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, in the presence of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.
This sacred service, a profound highlight of Holy Week, draws a large crowd of faithful who gather to honor the Burial of Christ. The faithful chant the traditional Lamentations Hymns before the beautifully adorned Epitaphios, covered in fresh flowers as a sign of mourning and veneration.
Following the conclusion of the service, the solemn procession of the Epitaphios will take place through the streets surrounding the Cathedral. Clergy, state officials, and Athenians of all ages will join the procession, holding candles and walking in silence and prayer, reflecting on the Passion and Burial of the Lord.
This deeply moving moment continues to unite the faithful in remembrance and hope, as the Church approaches the joyous proclamation of the Resurrection.
