The events for the inauguration of the Cathedral in Nicosia, Cyprus, began with the awarding ceremony of the benefactors and donors of the New Cathedral of Nicosia on the afternoon of Thursday, June 10.
The awarding ceremony took place in the northern part of the courtyard of the Church, in the presence of the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus, hierarchs, politicians, state authorities, benefactors and donors, and many faithful.
The primate of the Church of Cyprus welcomed the attendees and thanked the donors for their generous contribution in order to complete the construction of the new Cathedral in such a short time.
After the short reception, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus presided over the festal Vespers for the inauguration and the feast of the Founder of the Church of Cyprus, Saint Barnabas.
It is reminded that on Thursday, June 10, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece arrived in Cyprus.
The Archbishop, accompanied by the Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, Archim. Barnabas Theocharis, Archdeacon Ioannis Boutsis, the General Director of the NGO “Apostoli” and former Civil Governor of Mount Athos, Kostas Dimtsas, was welcomed at the airport by Bishop Christoforos of Karpasia on behalf of the Archbishop of Cyprus, who accompanied him to the Holy Archdiocese. A modest reception and a private meeting with the Archbishop took place.
Afterwards, the primate of the Church of Cyprus hosted a dinner in honor of the Archbishop of Athens and his entourage, in the presence of Metropolitans Panteleimon of Vryoula, Chrysostomos of Dodoni, and Panteleimon of Koroneia, who are already on the island to participate in the inauguration he new Cathedral, Bishops and all the clergy associated with the Archdiocese.
