On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America received the Executive Board of the Romanos the Melodist Chanters Society of New York for an audience at the Archdiocesan headquarters.
His Eminence warmly welcomed the members of the Board and discussed various topics with them concerning the Society’s vision, mission and expansion.
The Board also informed the Archbishop about their forthcoming activities, initiatives and events, including their Christmas concert on Friday, December 20, at 7 p.m., which will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration in Corona, New York.
The Society’s membership includes cantors of the Archdiocesan District who have joined together in a dedicated effort to preserve, promote and teach the Sacred Psaltic Art of Byzantine Chant in the Greater New York Area.
The Society aims to educate new cantors; train individuals interested in learning traditional instruments; engage youth in the sacred art of chanting; promote ecclesiastical music in parish settings; and implement educational initiatives in youth camps and school programs related to the teaching of Byzantine Chant.
