Archbishop Elpidophoros of America is visiting the fire-hit areas of Chios this week, as wildfires continue to devastate the island’s northwest.
On Thursday, August 14, the Archbishop met with Metropolitan Markos of Chios, Civil Administrator of Mount Athos Alkiviadis Stefanis, several Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and members of the Greek-American community with roots in Chios.
During his visit, he presided over the solemn celebration of the Dormition of the Theotokos at the Church of Panagia Nagousena in Kardamyla, a service marked by deep faith and local participation.
Archbishop Elpidophoros is scheduled to celebrate the Divine Liturgy in Chios on Sunday. On Monday, he will deliver a lecture at the Metropolis of Chios library titled “The Library of the Schole of Halki.”
