Archbishop Elpidophoros of America met on Friday, September 17, 2021, with New AHEPA Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas and the Executive Director of AHEPA Basil Mossaidis at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in New York City.
During their meeting, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and AHEPA Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas discussed the reception of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the dinner that will be hosted in his honor by AHEPA, as well as the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the organization and the Archdiocese of America, as reported by anamniseis.net.
The former president Nikolaos Karakostas and the executive director Bill Mosaidis also attended the meeting, who, along with the supreme president, informed the host about the 99th annual conference in Athens and stressed that it was extremely important for the enhancement of the role and prestige of an international organization.
The Supreme President of AHEPA, Dimitrios Kokotas, expressed satisfaction with the meeting with Archbishop Elpidophoros and stressed that the news about the planned trip of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew from October 23 to November 2 generated enthusiasm of both the leadership and the members of AHEPA.
On the evening of October 24, 2021, AHEPA will host the official biennial dinner in honor of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC, and will be attended by leaders of major Greek-American organizations, as well as members of the US Congress and government officials.
Extensive reference was made during the meeting to the events for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the organization that will begin with the official dinner at Tarpon Springs that will be held on the Feast of Epiphany and will honor the Holy Archdiocese of America and Archbishop Elpidophoros.
The events, as Kokotas pointed out, will continue throughout the year, while the 100th Congress of the organization, which will take place in July 2022 in Orlando, Florida, holds a prominent place.
Asked about the upcoming events and activities of the organization, Kokotas said that on Thursday they would have the opportunity to meet Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and members of the Greek delegation participating in the UN Summit, while on Friday they would meet with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis.
Kokotas made special reference to the successful tenure of his predecessor, George Choriatis, and stressed that they would give special importance to the action of the departments of AHEPA, the Daughters of Penelope, the Maids of Athena and the Sons of Pericles and the cooperation with the High to enhance cultural and charity activity throughout the United States and Canada and all over the world.
