Archbishop Elpidophoros of America shared a heartfelt message on social media on July 4th, reflecting on the deeper spiritual meaning of freedom as the United States celebrated its Independence Day.
“On our Nation’s Birthday, when the entire world and our Country yearn for truth and peace — the firm and unyielding hallmarks of a genuine life in Christ — let us commit to truly being Christ’s followers,” the Archbishop wrote.
In his message, he emphasized that freedom and knowledge are sacred gifts, but ones that are granted in accordance with one’s faithfulness and actions.
“The Lord understands our need for freedom and knowledge, but He bestows them upon us in proportion to the measure of our faithfulness and the good deeds that we perform as His servants.”
Calling on all faithful to embrace a life of integrity and discipleship, he concluded with a reference to the Gospel of John: “Let us, therefore, strive to be honest disciples of His Divine Word, so that we may ‘know the truth’ (John 8:32) and be truly free!”
