Yesterday, on August 15, 2024, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America commemorated the Dormition of our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary by celebrating the Divine Liturgy at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Brooklyn, New York.
The Archbishop was welcomed to the parish by the community’s faithful and parish priest Damaskinos Ganas.
In his homily for the Dormition of the Theotokos, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America reflected on this “little Pascha” as a solemn affirmation of Orthodox faith.
He highlighted the fulfillment of King David’s prophecy through the passing of the Virgin Mary, noting, “The Lord took her body, and granted her to experience the Resurrection of the Dead.”
He emphasized the significance of this event as the “first-fruits” of Christ’s promise to His disciples, where “the Dormition of the Mother of God becomes the occasion” for demonstrating the power of resurrection and eternal life, which is the ultimate gift to all believers.
