The University of Ioannina, in collaboration with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, inaugurated its new International Office in New York on Monday, November 3, 2025. The Office, housed in a space generously provided by the Archdiocese at its headquarters, marks a significant step toward global outreach and strengthening the University’s ties with the Greek diaspora worldwide.
The establishment of the Office follows the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on May 28, 2025, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and the University’s Rector, Professor Anna Batistatou.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Elpidophoros and Rector Batistatou, with the Consul of Greece in New York, Petros Dorizas, and numerous distinguished guests in attendance.
To mark the launch of the International Office, a highly successful Symposium titled “Greek Education as a Global, Timeless, and Contemporary Legacy” was held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Greek Cultural Center of the Archdiocese in Astoria. Co-organized by the University of Ioannina, the Department of Greek Education of the Archdiocese, the Greek Cultural Center, and the Maliotis Cultural Center of Hellenic Holy Cross, the Symposium highlighted the enduring significance of Greek education and language in today’s global landscape.
