“In her Dormition, the Virgin seals the Divine Drama of our salvation by anchoring the Ladder of Divine Ascent in her tomb”, said Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
In anticipation of the upcoming Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America shared a heartfelt message on social media, offering theological insights into the significance of this sacred event.
He wrote:
“In her Dormition, the Virgin seals the Divine Drama of our salvation by anchoring the Ladder of Divine Ascent in her tomb. Thus we chant: ‘The tomb has become a ladder to Heaven!’ By enduring a peaceful death, she becomes for us the model of our transition from this life to the next.”
Accompanying his reflection was an image of the icon “Dormition of the Virgin,” dated 1565–1566, from the Holy Cathedral of the Dormition of the Virgin in Hermoupolis.
This depiction serves as a visual reminder of the profound spiritual legacy left by the Theotokos, inspiring the faithful to contemplate the mysteries of life, death, and eternal salvation.
