Last night, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America attended “An Evening with Maria Callas,” a performance in support of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation by the world-renowned opera company Teatro Grattacielo.
The event marked the opening of the Annual Archon Weekend, taking place from October 17-20, 2024, as the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate gather together in New York City to focus on religious freedom pursuits for the Mother Church of Constantinople.
The elegant reception featured a performance inspired by Maria Callas (Maria Anna Cecilia Sofia Kalogeropoulos), who was a Greek-American soprano and one of the most celebrated and significant opera singers of the twentieth century. Her awe-inspiring musical and dramatic abilities led to her being widely known as La Divina (“The Divine One”).
In his remarks at the event, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of such events in “building a community of like-minded souls committed to the future of our Mother Church,” thanking the Archons for providing “a responsible and accountable methodology for supplying the Church of Constantinople and giving Her the tools She needs to maintain the canonical and spiritual order of the worldwide Church.”
