Ierotheos Markopoulos and the community of Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church welcomed Archbishop Elpidophoros of America with much enthusiasm to the parish on Thursday, October 31, 2024, for Great Hierarchical Vespers.
Speaking to a full church, Archbishop Elpidophoros spoke about the Heavenly Protectors, Saint Kosmas and Damian, the Holy Anargyroi, explaining that they were brothers not only in the flesh of one mother and one father, but they were brothers in spirit.
Their souls were joined in their love for Christ and their love for their fellow human beings. Both were physicians, and they were true Ἀνάργυροι, never seeking compensation for their services and living the words that our Lord Jesus Christ commanded His Apostles, and that we chant in their Apolytikion: Δωρεὰν ἐλάβετε, δωρεὰν δότε. Freely you have received, freely give.
Following the service, sweets were given to the faithful. Also attending the Vespers were many clergy from parishes in the area.
