Archbishop Elpidophoros of America paid tribute to the late Archbishop Anastasios of Albania in a heartfelt post on social media, highlighting his profound impact on the Orthodox Church and beyond.
“The legacy of Archbishop Anastasios is profoundly significant, not only for his successor but for all of us,” wrote Archbishop Elpidophoros.
He described Archbishop Anastasios as “a true spiritual father” who dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel message of “peace, justice, solidarity, unity, and reconciliation” to the ends of the earth.
Reflecting on the late Archbishop’s pivotal role, Elpidophoros noted his steadfast leadership during a critical period for the martyric Church of Albania. “With unwavering resolve and grave responsibility, he guided a martyric Church through a critical period of transition,” he said.
Elpidophoros praised Anastasios’ rare ability to “open hearts, reconcile differences, mend divisions,” and emphasized his unique approach to religious experience. As the late Archbishop often said, faith should not serve as “fuel to inflame conflict, but as a healing balm to tend to the wounds of humanity.”
