“The leading composer Mikis Theodorakis was the seeker of world harmony, an ecumenical Greek with a global impact. At the same time, he was an ardent fighter where he saw human suffering, longing for justice, desire for the friendly coexistence of peoples, world peace and brotherhood.
His life was turbulent with a strong social and political presence and he was stubbornly dedicated to the creative experience of the timeless Greek tradition, the cultivation and uplift of the people.
His original musical compositions crossed the borders of the country and resonated in many neighborhoods of the world,” said Archbishop Anastasios of Albania in his message of condolences for the passing of Mikis Theodorakis.
He continued: “Archangel in the music scene, Mikis-Michael Theodorakis took advantage of the God-given gifts and offered them generously to the universe. In the search for God he was sensitive and discreet. It is known that his compositions, which are related to the peaks of his life, refer to church hymns (Troparion of Cassiani, Funeral Service, Divine Liturgy).
Our prayer is for God, the Sun of justice and peace, to rest his chosen soul “in the scene of the righteous.” May his memory live forever! He is already part of eternity.”
