Archbishop Ioannis of Albania underlined the importance of interfaith coexistence and the need for religious communities and the state in Albania to maintain open dialogue in order to strengthen security and social peace in the country. His remarks came during a recent meeting with the Governor of Vlora, Plator Nesturi.
Accompanied by Metropolitan Astios of Vlora and Bishop Anastasios of Kruja, Archbishop Ioannis discussed with the governor the historical role of religious coexistence in Albania, noting that it had been cultivated in earlier times but was especially promoted and consolidated by the late Archbishop Anastasios. He stressed that fanaticism does not lead to light but to darkness.
Archbishop Ioannis further stated that he will continue his contacts with other Albanian officials, with the aim of ensuring that social peace becomes an undeniable reality through interfaith coexistence.
