On Sunday, September 1, 2019, Archbishop Nikon (Liolin) of Boston, New England, and the Albanian Archdiocese (OCA) fell asleep in the Lord.
He was of Albanian descent and came from Boboshticë, Korçë.
He served for many years in two temples of the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America, Saint Nicholas Church, Southbridge, Massachusetts, and Saint Thomas Church, Farmington Hills, Michigan.
In 2003 he was appointed US Bishop of the Albanian Archdiocese (OCA), and in October 2003 he was elected Bishop of Boston. He also served as head of the Diocese of New England.
In May 2012 Archbishop Nikon was elevated to the rank of Archbishop (Metropolitan). In a condolence message to his elder brother, Father Arthur Liolin, Metropolitan Andon of Elbasan said, “We are praying for the repose of his soul. I had the opportunity to meet him in two of his visits to Albania. May his memory be eternal!”
Moreover, Metropolitan Nikolla of Apollonia and Fier noted, “We gratefully acknowledge that the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in America’s Albanian Archdiocese and New England diocese, Nikon, supported and helped, along with the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America, the Albanian Orthodox Church.
