Archbishop Nikitas celebrates Divine Liturgy at Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian in Ipswich

On Sunday, 16th February 2025, Archbishop Nikitas presided over Orthros (Matins) and celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian in Ipswich. Those concelebrating were the Revd Protopresbyter John Garnett, Priest in Charge, Revd Presbyter David Gilchrist, Revd Presbyter Kenneth Parker and Revd Archdeacon George Tsourous.

Adding to the solemnity of the occasion, four sisters from the nearby Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex chanted, enriching the Service with the beauty and depth of Byzantine hymnody.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Nikitas elevated Nathan Cuthbert Churm to the Order of Reader. In conferring this blessing, he underscored the sacred duty of Readers in the Church, calling him to serve with humility, reverence, and dedication to the liturgical life of the community.

This pastoral visit to Ipswich reflects Archbishop Nikitas’ commitment to strengthening smaller parishes, as he has undertaken to visit and support local communities across the Archdiocese this year, affirming their vital role in the life of the Church.

The celebration concluded with a festal meal in the Community Hall, where those present shared in fellowship and joy, united in gratitude for the day’s blessings.
