Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Leader of the Labour Party Anthony Albanese discussed several issues concerning the Greek population of Australia.
The Archbishop referred to the youth to which the Archdiocese of Australia is going to pay special attention. In particular, at the instigation of the Ecumenical Patriarch, the city of Melbourne will establish a new Rehabilitation Centre.
Archbishop Makarios said, “The Church has so far paid special attention to the elder people. St. Basil’s Homes for the Aged are known all over Australia. We are currently building five more such nursing homes in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, which are financed with a multi-million dollar budget. However, we should not ignore the young children.”
