On Wednesday, July 23, Archbishop Makarios of Australia warmly welcomed Alison Duncan, the Australian Ambassador to Greece, to the Archbishop’s Residence in Sydney.
In honor of the distinguished diplomat, Archbishop Makarios hosted a dinner attended by several notable church figures, including His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, the Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese, Reverend Archimandrite Christoforos Krikelis of the Ecumenical Throne, Archdeacon Athenagoras, and Dr. Philippos Kariatlis, Associate Dean of the St. Andrew’s Theological School, accompanied by his wife.
The gathering was marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere, during which discussions focused on matters of mutual interest. Special emphasis was placed on the enduring bonds of friendship connecting the peoples of Greece and Australia, as well as the vital contribution of the large Greek diaspora to the cultural and social fabric of Australia.
Both Archbishop Makarios and Ambassador Duncan expressed their commitment to strengthening and deepening the relations between the two countries. They also conveyed their readiness to work collaboratively towards this shared goal.
In closing, Archbishop Makarios thanked Ambassador Duncan for her honorable visit and wished her continued success in her diplomatic duties in Greece.
