Archbishop Makarios of Australia received a very warm welcome from the parish of St. John the Baptist in Cairns, Bob Manning, Mayor of Cairns, and other local government representatives during his first pastoral visit to North Queensland.
Also present at the welcoming ceremony were the Consul General of Greece in Queensland, Dimitris Raptis, and the High Commissioner for Cyprus in Australia, Martha Mavrommatis.
The Archbishop had the opportunity to reach out to the priests and faithful of the area, while during his stay, among other things, he officially opened the new offices of the St. John’s Community Care Center and celebrated at the Church of St. John the Baptist.
