With paternal concern and love, Archbishop Makarios of Australia addresses couples facing challenges in their family peace and encourages them to focus on recognizing the positive qualities of their spouses.
In a video message posted on Instagram, he highlights that “toxicity and hatred exist because we do not see the good and the efforts that they make.”
Archbishop Makarios observes that modern lifestyles often hinder couples from appreciating each other and maintaining a loving, peaceful family environment. Instead, they can create a toxic atmosphere where everyday life becomes painful.
He notes, “It is that each person sets about to see only negative things in the other,” adding: “It’s not that the other person doesn’t have gifts, all people have gifts, but we’ve gotten into this process now and we only see negative things.”
The Archbishop suggests a practical experiment: for a week or ten days, consciously note all the positive qualities you observe in your spouse.
“Begin with the very small things. And then you will see that there is always scope for all toxicity to disappear,” he advises. He concludes with encouragement: “Begin with seeing the good things which always exist in the life of all people.”
