Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos attended on Monday afternoon an event in memory of the national benefactor Evangelis Zappas on the occasion of the Public Benefactors Remembrance Day.
The event took place at the Zappeion Mansion in the presence of high-profile guests, while Athanasios Martinos was honoured for his social work.
The President of the Hellenic Republic awarded the Golden Medal of the Zappeion to Athanasios Martinos and expressed his enthusiasm for being there by thanking those who thought this event should be held. He also spoke about setting up a day dedicated to public benefactors.
Addressing Athanasios Martinos, he pointed out his emblematic social contribution, noting that he has, by all accounts, emerged as an authentic Eupatrid, who worthily continues the great tradition of the Public Benefactors.
