In his post on social media, the Archbishop Elpidophoros of America referred to the dramatic situation that prevails in the last days in the Western United States of America, whose inhabitants are living nightmarish moments due to more than 100 fires that have burned down a huge area, with more than 30 dead and dozens more missing.
Specifically the Archbishop stated:
“The tragic loss of dozens of lives and properties in the Western States calls on all of us to stand with all our strength and all our compassion on those who have been affected and to see this enormous catastrophe, which is directly related to climate change and is expanding exponentially. It is our duty to take care of the creation itself with prudence and wisdom, because it is the home of every human being, because it is the home of all of us”.
The grievous loss of life and livelihood in the Western States calls all of us to respond with compassion for the suffering and with wisdom in the face of destruction that #ClimateChange exacerbates. We are called to care for creation, for it is the home of every human being. pic.twitter.com/WvsLK2rtru
