Archbishop Elpidophoros of America expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt prayers on behalf of the entire Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for the victims of the devastating floods that have struck Central Texas.
These catastrophic floods, caused by relentless heavy rainfall, have resulted in the tragic loss of at least 43 lives in Kerr County alone, including 15 children. Rescue teams continue their search for missing persons, including 27 young girls who were attending a summer camp along the Guadalupe River.
In his message, the Archbishop mourned the lives lost, particularly the innocent children whose hopes were cut short by the disaster. He acknowledged the profound pain felt by all, emphasizing that the suffering touches everyone’s heart. He likened the grief of bereaved parents to the sorrow of the Theotokos standing at the Cross.
To the families anxiously awaiting news of their missing loved ones, especially those connected to Camp Mystic, Archbishop Elpidophoros conveyed solidarity and shared in their anguish. He fervently prayed for the safety and protection of those still unaccounted for and called upon the Lord Jesus Christ to grant divine mercy and strength to the rescue workers tirelessly continuing their efforts in the flooded areas.
