Archbishop Elpidophoros of America will lead an Interfaith Prayer Service for Türkiye and Syria on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Georgetown University, for all those who have been injured or displaced in the recent earthquake, and for the recovery effort to come.
On February 6, 2023, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria. Since then, casualties have surpassed 36000 and continue to increase, while infrastructure has been decimated across the affected areas. “The devastating death toll in Türkiye and Syria means we must offer both prayers and tangible relief,” Archbishop Elpidophoros said.
In solidarity with Türkiye and Syria and the diaspora communities here in the United States, the Interfaith Prayer Service is an opportunity to pray together for the peace and comfort of victims and their families, as well as for the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has also recently announced an Earthquake Relief Fund, in collaboration with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), to meet both the immediate and long-term needs arising from the devastation.
