Archbishop Elpidophoros of America issued a message of gratitude and respect following the acceptance of Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s resignation by Pope Leo XIV.
In a post shared on social media, the Archbishop expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Cardinal Dolan, highlighting his longstanding friendship with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and his significant contribution to ecumenical relations.
“Throughout the years, Cardinal Dolan has been a steadfast friend of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and a true ecumenical partner,” Archbishop Elpidophoros wrote. He praised Cardinal Dolan’s openness, generosity of spirit, and unwavering commitment to Christian unity, noting that these qualities have strengthened ties between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches and enhanced their shared public witness.
Archbishop Elpidophoros also offered prayers as Cardinal Dolan enters a new chapter of life and ministry, asking that God grant him abundant blessings, good health, and continued joy in service to the Gospel.
