The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate continued its deliberations on Thursday, July 23, 2026, under the chairmanship of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, examining the items on its agenda and adopting the corresponding decisions.
According to an official announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Synod unanimously elected Archimandrite Kallinikos Mavroleon, Abbot of the Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. George Vasses on Karpathos, as Auxiliary Bishop to Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos, with the titular See of Bishop of Medeia.
The election followed a proposal by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and a formal request submitted by Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos. The canonical vote took place at the Patriarchal Church of St. George at the Phanar.

During the same session, the Minor and Great Message (Formal Announcement) services were also celebrated for Archbishop-elect Apostolos of Canada at the Patriarchal Church of St. George.
Following the conclusion of the ceremony, Archbishop-elect Apostolos received the congratulations and best wishes of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod, and officials of the Patriarchal Court.
They wished the newly elected Archbishop of Canada a fruitful and blessed pastoral ministry as he prepares to assume leadership of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada.
