The annual memorial service for late Archbishop Stylianos of Australia was held on Saturday, 21 May, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, in Sydney.
Archbishop Makarios of Australia presided over the Divine Liturgy behind closed doors due to the measures taken in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Bishops Seraphim of Sevastia and Aimilianos of Meloe also attended the Divine Liturgy.
Archbishop Makarios expressed his regret that the initial plans of the Archdiocese of Australia changed due to the coronavirus outbreak. “This extremely bad situation does not allow the faithful to come to church, and, therefore, we are now performing alone the annual memorial service for one of our greatest Hierarchs in the Orthodox Church, late Archbishop Stylianos. He was skilfully serving the Church of Australia for 45 years, as he was blessed and inspired by God,” the Archbishop of Australia said. “In addition, he served the Orthodox Church in a way that the next generations will always commemorate him. They will lay wreaths on his tomb and they will be eternally grateful.”
