The State Department has asked the Turkish government to respect the diverse history of religious sites, commenting on the conversion of Hagia Sophia in Andrianople into a mosque on Christmas Eve.
As reported by ERT the State Department spokesman said: “We are aware of the reopening of the mosque in Enez after extensive restoration.
We encourage the Turkish government to maintain and ensure access to sites and buildings that have housed different religious communities, in a way that respects their diverse history.”
