With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide held a fundraising tea.
The event was held in the hall of the offices of the Archiepiscopal Church of St Sophia in Bowden on the afternoon of Sunday 30th of June – the Feast of All Saints and the Feast of the Synaxis of the Twelve Apostles. In spite of the cold, wet weather, and a full program of Church activities for the District in recent weeks, there was a pleasing and encouraging response of attendees.
The speaker for the event was Bishop Silouan of Sinope, who presented on the lives of the two great missionaries and pillars of the Church, the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul – whose feast day was celebrated the day before. His Grace spoke about the great repentance and the humility that these two chief apostles acquired from their experience, and how it transformed them into zealots for the spreading of the Gospel.
The event was catered by the indefatigable ladies of the Central Philoptochos, who provided a magnificent selection of dishes both sweet and savoury, feeding the people physically while they were being nourished spiritually.
