When the Metropolitan Augustine of Germany was enthroned forty years ago, during his enthronement speech, among other priorities, he announced as his main vision the creation of a “small homeland” in each parish, with the acquisition of temples and other buildings.
The realization of this vision was achieved by the Diocese in the parish of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the city of Duisburg in the state of Lower Rhine-Westphalia.
The church was equipped, decorated and hagiographed with the coordinated efforts of the parishioners, of the first priest, the blessed Fr. Ioannis Manolis and its current pastor Fr. Michael Chalkiadakis. It is worth noting the substantial contribution to the development of the parish, but also to the purchase of the church of the Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Fr. Panagiotis Tsoumpaklis, former archdeacon of the Metropolitan Augustine of Germany, who since he was still a layman, as a resident of the parish was interested in its establishment and consolidation.
Metropolitan Augustine of Germany on the weekend of October 3-4, 2020 was in the parish of Duisburg to sign the contract for the purchase of the church and on Sunday, following all the safety measures required by law, to perform the first Divine Liturgy.
