The Turkish authorities, which in recent years have been investing in religious tourism by restoring Sumela Monastery and other Greek monasteries, is now particularly interested in a rare church on the Black Sea coast as reported by pontosnews.gr.
Vakfıkebir is about 75 km west of the city of Trabzon. It is the second Greek-speaking town of Tonya while Yeros Burnu is situated in the western part of the city.
The two-storey church is built at a distance of about 2 km from the beach on the rock in an extremely inaccessible area.
For decades it had been abandoned, but now it has been included in the list of cultural monuments of the Province of Trebizond. Turkish officials visited recently the church who made an assessment of its condition.
Hagiographies are in a very bad condition, but, according to local sources, there are hagiographies from the Twelve Apostles among them.
